Description of Art Deco style in the interior:

Art Dero style in the interior often called a synonym for showiness. Art Deco style combines classicism, straightforwardness and symmetry. It is the product of such diverse sources as Art Nouveau, Cubism, the Bauhaus, as well as the ancient art of Egypt, the East, Africa, and the Americas. Distinctive features of Art Deco are strict regularity, ethnic geometric patterns, luxury, chic, expensive and modern materials. Art Deco style in the interior gives the impression of the sum of individual components, the grouping of "stylish things" - furniture, fabrics, bronzes, glass , ceramics.

Art Deco walls: In the Art Deco style, they are decorated with wallpaper imitating fabric or lace, and fabric panels are also used. Stained-glass windows, ceramic mosaics, leather inserts or expensive textiles are suitable for wall decoration. The color of the wall is usually saturated but neutral, leaving more emphasis on interior items.

Art Deco ceiling: The choice of ceiling material in an Art Deco interior is not critical. The main thing is not to deprive the interior of a sense of luxury and emphasize it in every possible way. Therefore, they are suitable from a glossy white ceiling to a wooden coffered one. The ceiling ornament is strict and clearly symmetrical; ethnic patterns can also be used.

Art Deco floor:  Laid out with parquet in bright contrasting colors. Exotic wood parquet is perfect. The second option for Art Deco flooring will be exquisite ceramic tiles, as one of the options for the effect of marble flooring, the contrast of black and white is often used.

Pro Tips:

1. Art Deco style in the interior is preferred by everyone who is alien to minimalism, excessive restraint and antique classics. Unlike previous classical styles, Art Deco is perfectly combined with modern equipment and technology. With the help of vintage interior items and single elements of furniture and decor, the status and financial well-being of the owner of an apartment or establishment made in the Art Deco style are favorably emphasized.

2. To embody the Art Deco style in the interior, use a variety of decorative elements in the interior, bright and bold, and at the same time exceptionally selected color combinations. The most common colors are: rich browns, black (often combined with white), gold, ivory.

3. Often the art deco style in the interior combines elements and ornaments of ancient styles. Their selection must be careful. Ornaments, figures, figurines in the art deco style should be a barely perceptible touch, rather than a catchy accent on the antiquity or oriental style. Art Deco decorative elements and decor items can use mythological creatures and animals, pyramids, ziggurats, various female silhouettes, strict zigzags and stepped forms similar to Egyptian ones.

4. Textiles in art deco interior should be represented by luxurious fabrics themselves: numerous curtains, draperies, upholstery, pillows, lampshades made of velvet, silk, satin silver embroidery.

5. An exotic proko palm tree is considered traditional for the Art Deco style in the interior. Its ornament can be used on ornate stairs, headrests of beds, textile ornament. Other Art Deco floral motifs: intricately curved sakura branches, leaves of tropical plants. Ornateness should not prevail in Art Deco, otherwise it will turn into Art Nouveau. Strict lines remain the main ones for Art Deco, and ornateness serves as a light dilution.

6. Expensive exotic materials are especially valued in Art Deco style: ivory, ebony, mother-of-pearl, diamonds, shagreen leather, even “lizard skins” and crocodile, shark and zebra skin. Seating furniture is upholstered with expensive leather, often of exotic manufacture. Any imitation should look as natural as possible.

Art Deco History:

Art Deco (fr. art déco letters - decorative art) is a trend in the art of the first half of the 20th century, manifested in architecture, fashion and painting. It is a synthesis of modern and neoclassicism.

In the USA, the Netherlands, France and some other countries, Art Deco gradually evolved towards functionalism, while in countries with totalitarian regimes (Third Reich, USSR, etc.), Art Deco turns into a “new Empire style”. In Soviet architecture during the period of post-constructivism, many elements of Art Deco were borrowed (for example, the Moskva Hotel).

The term "Art Deco" appeared after the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1925, demonstrating that Paris remained an international center of style after the First World War. The Art Deco trend itself existed even before the opening of the exhibition.

It was a noticeable trend in European art in the 1920s. It did not reach American shores until 1928, where in the 1930s it evolved into "Streamline Moderne", an Americanized offshoot of Art Deco.

Although the term Art Deco originated in 1925, it was not commonly used until the shift in attitude towards the era in the 1960s. Art Deco masters were not part of a single community. The movement was considered eclectic, influenced by several sources.

Art Deco style - the face of the Jazz Age and the period of interwar prosperity, a visual reflection of the "roaring 20s". Art Deco partly continued the traditions of Art Nouveau (modern), at the same time, it was influenced by cubism, American folk art and the design of the mechanical and aircraft building that was rapidly developing at that time. Here, floral decor is opposed to linear and geometric, as it is more in line with the new technology in architecture and industry. Becomes popular geometric ornament of straight lines, triangles and circles.

Some researchers consider Art Deco a variant or an early form of modernism.

The Art Deco style quietly disappeared after the rise of mass production, when it was treated as flashy, gaudy and fakely luxurious. The final end to this style was put by the hardships of the Second World War. In colonial countries such as India, Art Deco became the gateway to modernism and did not disappear until the 1960s
